He departed from this earth on May 18, 2020.

Herman's life journey began from elementary school then furthered his education through Johnston High School. He moved to N.J in 1960 he had a passion and a goal for trucking. He learned several trades in the trucking business. He became employee for several trucking companies.

Everyone that knew Herman, knew that he was a fun and likable person. He loved people and love making people laugh. Herman was very compassionate, he was a very giving person. If he knew you had a need he would be there for you, he never wanted to see any mouths go unfed, he would certainly feed you. He learned religion at an early age, he enjoyed going to church he was a member at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Passaic NJ.

His other hobbies he enjoyed was hanging out with his buddies at F&J, T&L, V.F.W & Leroy's: Buddy's Pool Hall, he also had a passion for buying old antique cars. His favorite car was his El Camino. He was given the nickname Killa, which he very much earned! He loved family. He was a brother of seven siblings whom he loved and cherished. He then started his own family, with his first wife Gertrude Smallwood. They had three children Sherman Lee Smallwood, Michelle Smallwood & Eric Smallwood. Years later Herman met his life time companion Linda L. Thomas. They had two children Corey V. Smallwood & Lawanda L. Smallwood.

He was a loving and amazing father & grandfather. He loved his children & grandchildren very much. He would discipline you and love you at the same time. Herman always wanted the best for his children. He was a great example of what a hard working man looked like and should be. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren & great grandchildren up until his last days. He was honored and loved by all of his niece's, nephew's, family members & friends. We the family will certainly miss and always love Herman A.K.A Killa!

He predeceased in death by his parent's, one sibling, his life time companion, one step-son, one grand-daughter & one great grand-daughter. Sister in laws, brother in laws, uncles, aunts & host of love ones.
