Obituary

Obituary for Madhukanta Indravadan Shah

Madhukanta I. Shah - Obituary

Madhukanta Indravadan Shah aka “Baa” passed peacefully with her loved ones
on May 24, 2021 at 2:45 PM in New Jersey.

Our beloved Baa was born on March 27, 1934 in Gujarat, India, where she was
raised with her four sisters in the village of Jhanor. She was married in 1947 to
the late Indravadan Shah, and they lived as well-respected community leaders in
the village of Bachar. Together they raised 4 beautiful children, Pratima, Atul,
Nilesh, and Rajesh. In 1982, she immigrated to the United States of America to
reunite with her husband, who had left India prior, seeking the American dream
for their family.

Baa was the epitome of a devoted, loving, and nurturing wife, mother, and
grandmother. She greatly valued her Indian culture, and carried those traditions
with her until the very end. As the matriarch of the family, she made it her
responsibility to not only teach her grandchildren about the Hindu religion, but
also to instill the Indian values she transported from her motherland. In fact, Baa
only once traded her traditional sari for slacks, and thereafter decided to stick to
her traditional roots. Her warm smile was always welcoming, and she was ready
to host even at a minute’s notice. Most of all though, Baa was known for her
delicious Indian cooking. All the neighborhood kids, whether she was in New
Jersey or Massachusetts, would gather to enjoy the grand afterschool feast Baa
would prepare. She devoted her life to nurturing her children and spoiling her
grandchildren.

Baa was a woman of great strength, who overcame many adversities, always
with a smile on her face. From being married at a young age, to leaving behind
everything she knew and starting a new life in a new country, she persevered.
From language barriers to cultural assimilation, she conquered it all. No matter
what trials and tribulations she faced, she faced them wrapped in her sari and
sense of humor.

Madhukanta is survived by her four children, Pratima Kotia, Atul Shah, Nilesh
Shah and Rajesh Shah, nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Our
adorable Baa lived a complete life, full of adventure and courage. She will
forever be cherished and celebrated for her lively personality. She exemplified
strength and fortitude, which greatly shaped the strong and fierce
granddaughters she has today. Her family will honor all that she was by carrying
on the traditions and values she so deeply believed in.

We will never forget the sacrifices she made for our family, and we owe her a
lifetime of gratitude for the beautiful and blessed lives we have today. We find
solace in knowing that her soul is in harmony with her beloved husband of 74
years. May her atma transcend and find eternal peace. Jai Shri Krishna.
